As mentioned in Al-Quran As we approach the Holidays, the article “Holiday Greetings (Unity in Diversity)” provides a collection of relevant Quranic verses. We hope that we and our fellow citizens of other faiths, specially people of Christian faith, will see that the Quran teaches and promotes love and tolerance for all, respects choice and urges inclusiveness of others. The color code in the article is an attempt to provide word by word equivalence between the Quranic Arabic text and English text. بِسۡمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِيۡم In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful AlHujrat Chapter-49:13 The Divine Gift of Diversity O mankind, indeed, We created you from male and female, and We made you into nations and tribes so that you may come to know one another. Indeed, the most noble among you with God is the most spiritually conscious of you. Indeed, God is All knowing, All Aware. يٰۤاَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اِنَّا خَلَقۡنٰكُمۡ مِّنۡ ذَكَرٍ وَّاُنۡثٰى وَجَعَلۡنٰكُمۡ شُعُوۡبًا وَّ قَبَآٮِٕلَ لِتَعَارَفُوۡا ‌ؕ اِنَّ اَكۡرَمَكُمۡ عِنۡدَ اللّٰهِ اَتۡقٰٮكُمۡ ‌ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيۡمٌ خَبِيۡرٌ‏ AlMaidah Chapter-5:48 Many Lanes on the Divine Pathway For each among you, We appointed a divine law and a clear way. And if God had willed, He would have made you one nation. But that He may try you in that which He has given you. So race one with another in good deeds. To God you will return all together, He will then inform you of that in which you used to differ. لِكُلٍّ جَعَلۡنَا مِنۡكُمۡ شِرۡعَةً وَّ مِنۡهَاجًا ‌ؕ وَ لَوۡ شَآءَ اللّٰهُ لَجَـعَلَكُمۡ اُمَّةً وَّاحِدَةً وَّلٰـكِنۡ لِّيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ فِىۡ مَاۤ اٰتٰٮكُمۡ فَاسۡتَبِقُواالۡخَـيۡرٰتِ ‌ؕاِلَى اللّٰهِ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ جَمِيۡعًا فَيُنَبِّئُكُمۡ بِمَا كُنۡتُمۡ فِيۡهِ تَخۡتَلِفُوۡنَۙ‏ AlMaidah Chapter-5:82-84 Humility makes Room for Love And you will certainly find the nearest of them in affection to those who believe, those who say: “We are Christians.” That is because among them are priests and monks, and because they are not arrogant. وَ لَـتَجِدَنَّ اَقۡرَبَهُمۡ مَّوَدَّةً لِّـلَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُواالَّذِيۡنَ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا نَصٰرٰى ‌ؕ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قِسِّيۡسِيۡنَ وَ رُهۡبَانًا وَّ اَنَّهُمۡ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُوۡنَ‏ And when they hear what has been sent down to the messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say: Our God, we believe, so write us among the witnesses. وَ اِذَا سَمِعُوۡا مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَى الرَّسُوۡلِ تَرٰٓى اَعۡيُنَهُمۡ تَفِيۡضُ مِنَ الدَّمۡعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوۡا مِنَ الۡحَـقِّ ‌ۚ يَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَاۤ اٰمَنَّا فَاكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ الشّٰهِدِيۡنَ‏ And why should we not believe in God and that which has come to us of the truth. And we desire that our God will admit us along with the righteous people. وَ مَا لَـنَا لَا نُؤۡمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ مَا جَآءَنَا مِنَ الۡحَـقِّۙ وَنَطۡمَعُ اَنۡ يُّدۡخِلَـنَا رَبُّنَا مَعَ الۡقَوۡمِ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ‏ AalImran Chapter-3:199 God is the Judge of Faith And indeed, among the People of the Scripture there are those who believe in God and that which is revealed to you, and that which was revealed to them, humbling themselves before God. They do not trade the verses of God for a little price. Those, for them their reward is with their God. Indeed, God is swift in taking account. وَاِنَّ مِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ لَمَنۡ يُّؤۡمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡكُمۡ وَ مَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡهِمۡ خٰشِعِيۡنَ لِلّٰهِ ۙ لَا يَشۡتَرُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيۡلًا ‌ؕ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمۡ اَجۡرُهُمۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ ‌ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَرِيۡعُ الۡحِسَابِ ‏ AalImran Chapter-3:64 There is but One God Say: “O People of the Scripture, come to a word equitable between us and you that we shall not worship except God, nor shall we associate with Him anything, nor shall one of us take others for deities other than God.” So if they turn away, then say: “Bear witness that we are those who have submitted.” قُلۡ يٰۤاَهۡلَ الۡكِتٰبِ تَعَالَوۡا اِلٰى كَلِمَةٍ سَوَآءٍۢ بَيۡنَنَا وَ بَيۡنَكُمۡ اَلَّا نَـعۡبُدَ اِلَّا اللّٰهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهٖ شَيۡـًٔـا وَّلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا اَرۡبَابًا مِّنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰهِ ‌ؕ فَاِنۡ تَوَلَّوۡا فَقُوۡلُوا اشۡهَدُوۡا بِاَنَّا مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ‏ AlBaqarah Chapter-2:136 We are all God’s Chosen Say: “We believe in God and that which has been sent down to us, and that which was sent down to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which was given to Moses and Jesus, and that which was given to the prophets from their God. We make no distinction between any one of them, and to Him we have submitted.” قُوۡلُوۡٓا اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰهِ وَ مَآ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡنَا وَ مَآ اُنۡزِلَ اِلٰٓى اِبۡرٰهٖمَ وَ اِسۡمٰعِيۡلَ وَ اِسۡحٰقَ وَ يَعۡقُوۡبَ وَ الۡاَسۡبَاطِ وَ مَآ اُوۡتِىَ مُوۡسَىٰ وَ عِيۡسٰى وَ مَآ اُوۡتِىَ النَّبِيُّوۡنَ مِنۡ رَّبِّهِمۡ‌ۚ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيۡنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡهُمۡ وَ نَحۡنُ لَهٗ مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ‏ AlAnaam Chapter-6:83-87 The Primordial Straight Path And that was Our proof which We gave to Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your God is All Wise, All Knowing. وَتِلۡكَ حُجَّتُنَاۤ اٰتَيۡنٰهَاۤ اِبۡرٰهِيۡمَ عَلٰى قَوۡمِهٖ ‌ؕ نَرۡفَعُ دَرَجٰتٍ مَّنۡ نَّشَآءُ ‌ؕ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيۡمٌ عَلِيۡمٌ‏ And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob, all of them We guided. And Noah did We guide before, and among his progeny, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. And thus do We reward doers of good. وَ وَهَبۡنَا لَهٗۤ اِسۡحٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوۡبَ ‌ؕ كُلاًّ هَدَيۡنَا ‌ۚ وَ نُوۡحًا هَدَيۡنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ‌ وَ مِنۡ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ دَاوٗدَ وَ سُلَيۡمٰنَ وَ اَيُّوۡبَ وَيُوۡسُفَ وَمُوۡسٰى وَ هٰرُوۡنَ ‌ؕ وَكَذٰلِكَ نَجۡزِى الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ ۙ And Zachariah and John and Jesus and Elias. all of them were of the righteous. وَ زَكَرِيَّا وَ يَحۡيَىٰ وَ عِيۡسٰى وَ اِلۡيَاسَ ‌ؕ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَۙ‏ And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot. And all of them We chose above the nations. وَاِسۡمٰعِيۡلَ وَالۡيَسَعَ وَيُوۡنُسَ وَلُوۡطًا‌ؕ وَكُلاًّ فَضَّلۡنَا عَلَى الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَۙ‏ And among their fathers, and their offspring, and their brethren. And We chose them, and We guided them to a straight path. وَمِنۡ اٰبَآٮِٕهِمۡ وَذُرِّيّٰتِهِمۡ وَاِخۡوَانِهِمۡ‌ۚ وَاجۡتَبَيۡنٰهُمۡ وَهَدَيۡنٰهُمۡ اِلٰى صِرٰطٍ مُّسۡتَقِيۡمٍ‏ AnNisa Chapter-4:136 Message of Faith O those who believe, believe in God, and His messenger and the Scripture which He has sent down upon His messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down before. And whoever disbelieves in God, and His Angels, and His Scriptures, and His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, then indeed he has gone far strayed. يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اٰمِنُوۡا بِاللّٰهِ وَ رَسُوۡلِهٖ وَ الۡكِتٰبِ الَّذِىۡ نَزَّلَ عَلٰى رَسُوۡلِهٖ وَ الۡكِتٰبِ الَّذِىۡۤ اَنۡزَلَ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ ‌ؕ وَ مَنۡ يَّكۡفُرۡ بِاللّٰهِ وَمَلٰٓٮِٕكَتِهٖ وَكُتُبِهٖ وَ رُسُلِهٖ وَ الۡيَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلٰلاًۢ بَعِيۡدًا‏ AlAnkaboot Chapter-29:46 Show Respect in Mutual Discussion And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except it be in a way that is better, except with those who do wrong among them. And say: “We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is One, and we are to Him those who surrender.” وَلَا تُجَادِلُوۡٓا اَهۡلَ الۡكِتٰبِ اِلَّا بِالَّتِىۡ هِىَ اَحۡسَنُ ۖ اِلَّا الَّذِيۡنَ ظَلَمُوۡا مِنۡهُمۡ ‌ وَ قُوۡلُوۡٓا اٰمَنَّا بِالَّذِىۡۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡنَا وَ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡكُمۡ وَ اِلٰهُـنَا وَاِلٰهُكُمۡ وَاحِدٌ وَّ نَحۡنُ لَهٗ مُسۡلِمُوۡنَ‏ AalImran Chapter-3:42,43,45 Holy Mary-Foremost amongst Women And when the angels said: “O Mary, indeed, God has chosen you and has purified you, and has chosen you above the women of the worlds.” وَاِذۡ قَالَتِ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ يٰمَرۡيَمُ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصۡطَفٰٮكِ وَ طَهَّرَكِ وَ اصۡطَفٰٮكِ عَلٰى نِسَآءِ الۡعٰلَمِيۡنَ‏ “O Mary, be obedient to your God, and prostrate, and bow down with those who bow down in worship.” يٰمَرۡيَمُ اقۡنُتِىۡ لِرَبِّكِ وَ اسۡجُدِىۡ وَارۡكَعِىۡ مَعَ الرّٰكِعِيۡنَ When the angels said: “O Mary, indeed, God gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter, and of those brought near.” اِذۡ قَالَتِ الۡمَلٰٓٮِٕكَةُ يٰمَرۡيَمُ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنۡهُ ۖ اسۡمُهُ الۡمَسِيۡحُ عِيۡسَى ابۡنُ مَرۡيَمَ وَجِيۡهًا فِىۡ الدُّنۡيَا وَ الۡاٰخِرَةِ وَ مِنَ الۡمُقَرَّبِيۡنَ‏ AalImran Chapter-3:46-60 Jesus, the Prophet who Spoke from his Cradle “And he will speak to mankind in the cradle and in maturity, and will be of the righteous.” وَ يُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فِى الۡمَهۡدِ وَ كَهۡلاً وَّ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيۡنَ‏ She said: “My God, how can I have a child when no man has touched me.” He (the angel) said: “Thus (shall it be), God creates what He wills.” When He decrees a matter, then He only says to it: “Be”, and it is. قَالَتۡ رَبِّ اَنّٰى يَكُوۡنُ لِىۡ وَلَدٌ وَّ لَمۡ يَمۡسَسۡنِىۡ بَشَرٌ ‌ؕ قَالَ كَذٰلِكِ اللّٰهُ يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ‌ؕ اِذَا قَضٰٓى اَمۡرًا فَاِنَّمَا يَقُوۡلُ لَهٗ كُنۡ فَيَكُوۡنُ‏ “And He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah, and the Gospel.” وَ يُعَلِّمُهُ الۡكِتٰبَ وَ الۡحِكۡمَةَ وَالتَّوۡرٰٮةَ وَ الۡاِنۡجِيۡلَ ‌ۚ‏ And a messenger to the Children of Israel, (saying): “That I have indeed come to you with a sign from your God, in that I make for you out of clay like the shape of a bird, then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by permission of God. And I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by permission of God. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store up in your houses. Indeed, in this is a sign for you, if you are believers.” وَرَسُوۡلاً اِلٰى بَنِىۡۤ اِسۡرٰٓءِيۡلَۙ اَنِّىۡ قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُمۡ بِاٰيَةٍ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ  ۙۚ اَنِّىۡۤ اَخۡلُقُ لَـكُمۡ مِّنَ الطِّيۡنِ كَهَیْــَٔةِ الطَّيۡرِ فَاَنۡفُخُ فِيۡهِ فَيَكُوۡنُ طَيۡرًاۢ بِاِذۡنِ اللّٰهِ ‌‌ۚ وَ اُبۡرِئُ الۡاَكۡمَهَ وَالۡاَبۡرَصَ وَ اُحۡىِ الۡمَوۡتٰى بِاِذۡنِ اللّٰهِ ‌ۚ وَ اُنَبِّئُكُمۡ بِمَا تَاۡكُلُوۡنَ وَ مَا تَدَّخِرُوۡنَۙ فِىۡ بُيُوۡتِكُمۡ ‌ؕ اِنَّ ‏فِىۡ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً لَّـكُمۡ اِنۡ كُنۡتُمۡ مُّؤۡمِنِيۡنَ “And (I have come) confirming that which was before me of the Torah, and to make lawful for you some of that which was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your God, so fear God and obey me.” وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيۡنَ يَدَىَّ مِنَ التَّوۡرٰٮةِ وَلِاُحِلَّ لَـكُمۡ بَعۡضَ الَّذِىۡ حُرِّمَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ ‌ؕوَجِئۡتُكُمۡ بِاٰيَةٍ مِّنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ فَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَ اَطِيۡعُوۡنِ‏ Indeed, God is my God and your God, so worship Him. That is the straight path. اِنَّ اللّٰهَ رَبِّىۡ وَرَبُّكُمۡ فَاعۡبُدُوۡهُ ‌ؕ هٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسۡتَقِيۡمٌ‏ When God said: O Jesus, indeed, I will take you and raise you to Myself, and purify you of those who disbelieve.” اِذۡ قَالَ اللّٰهُ يٰعِيۡسٰىۤ اِنِّىۡ مُتَوَفِّيۡكَ وَرَافِعُكَ اِلَىَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا This is what We recite to you of the verses and a wise reminder. ذٰلِكَ نَـتۡلُوۡهُ عَلَيۡكَ مِنَ الۡاٰيٰتِ وَ الذِّكۡرِ الۡحَكِيۡمِ‏ Certainly, the example of Jesus with God is like the example of Adam. He created him from dust, then He said to him: “Be,” and he was. اِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيۡسٰى عِنۡدَ اللّٰهِ كَمَثَلِ اٰدَمَ ‌ؕ خَلَقَهٗ مِنۡ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهٗ كُنۡ فَيَكُوۡنُ‏ The truth is from your Lord, so do not be of those who doubt. اَلۡحَـقُّ مِنۡ رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُنۡ مِّنَ الۡمُمۡتَرِيۡنَ‏ Fussalit Chapter-41:34. Response to the Message of Hate/Enmity And not equal are the good deed and neither the evil deed. Repel (the evil deed) by that which is better, then he between you and him there was enmity (will become) as though he was a devoted friend. وَلَا تَسۡتَوِى الۡحَسَنَةُ وَ لَا السَّيِّئَةُ ؕ اِدۡفَعۡ بِالَّتِىۡ هِىَ اَحۡسَنُ فَاِذَا الَّذِىۡ بَيۡنَكَ وَبَيۡنَهٗ عَدَاوَةٌ كَاَنَّهٗ وَلِىٌّ حَمِيۡمٌ‏
